Marine Stainless Steel Casting Manufacturer
Precision Steel Cast is a dedicated marine stainless steel casting manufacturer producing corrosion-resistant hardware for vessels, ports, offshore platforms and coastal infrastructure. The ocean is the most demanding environment a metal will ever face: a single component may see continuous immersion, violent splash zones, biofouling, abrasion from grit and repeated mechanical load — all while chloride attacks any weakness in the alloy. We build marine parts in 316 / CF8M and 2205 duplex stainless so they survive that combination year after year instead of rusting out in a season.
As a marine hardware casting supplier, we understand that grade selection is the whole game. A cleat that pits through is not just a replacement cost — it is a safety failure at the worst possible moment. That is why shell chemistry, pour practice and finishing are tuned specifically for the grade and the duty, and why every marine heat is verified before it ships.

Introduction
Marine service demands more from stainless than any land-based application. Chloride ions in seawater are relentless: they break down the passive film on ordinary steels instantly and exploit the smallest crevice or pit on a marginal alloy. The result is crevice corrosion, pitting and, in severe cases, stress-corrosion cracking. Investment casting lets us make marine hardware from a single, dense, near-net-shape piece of the right grade — without the welded seams and trapped crevices that fabricated assemblies invite.
For boat builders, shipyards and offshore engineers, the advantage is reliability. A cast 316 cleat or bollard has no weld line to fail and no hidden lap joint to trap moisture. A cast propeller hub or seawater pump impeller is produced to the exact hydrodynamic profile the designer drew, not a compromised approximation forced by machining limitations. Near-net-shape casting also removes the scrap and rework that drive up the cost of corrosion-resistant alloys.
Manufacturing Capability
Precision Steel Cast runs the full marine casting process in one vertically integrated workshop:
| Stage | Capability |
|---|---|
| Tooling | Hardened steel dies and wax-injection tooling built for repeatable marine production. |
| Pattern | Automatic wax injection for consistent, low-variation patterns and assemblies. |
| Shell | Multi-layer silica sol slurry and stucco ceramic shells for clean, dense cavities. |
| Melting | Medium-frequency induction furnaces with precise 316 / duplex chemistry control. |
| Machining | 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC centers finish sealing and locating features. |
| Finish | Electropolishing, passivation and shot blasting applied in-house. |
| Inspect | Spectrometer, CMM and NDT verify chemistry, geometry and integrity. |
This integration is what lets a marine stainless steel casting manufacturer guarantee both lead time and quality. The team that pours the duplex heat is the team that machines it and the team that inspects it, so accountability never disappears into a vendor hand-off. When a bollard leaves our building, we can prove exactly what it is made of.

Production Process
The sequence begins with wax pattern production, followed by building a ceramic shell layer by layer around the assembly. After the shell is cured, the wax is melted out and molten marine-grade stainless is poured into the cavity. Once cooled, the shell is removed, the casting is cut from its runner, CNC machined where required, finished and inspected.
Each step is documented. Wax patterns are checked against master gauges, shell thickness is controlled by the number and composition of slurry layers, and pour temperature is logged for every heat. That documentation is what lets us reproduce a duplex bollard identically years after the first sample — critical when a ship class or port specification demands repeatability across a multi-year build program.
Material Options
| Grade | Equivalent | Why it is used in marine service |
|---|---|---|
| 316 | CF8M | The standard marine austenitic grade; good all-round seawater resistance. |
| 316L | CF3M | Low-carbon version for welded marine assemblies and maximum corrosion resistance. |
| 2205 | — | Duplex; roughly double the strength and far better pitting resistance than 316. |
| 254SMO | — | Super-austenitic for the most aggressive seawater and brackish duty. |
| 17-4PH | 630 | High-strength precipitation-hardening grade for shafts and wear components. |
Selecting the right grade protects both the vessel and the budget. Over-specifying 254SMO on a sheltered fresh-water marina fitting wastes money; under-specifying 316 on a continuously immersed offshore strut invites premature failure. Our metallurgy team reviews the duty — immersion versus splash, flow rate, temperature, fouling and mechanical load — and recommends the grade that matches it.
Surface Finishing
Finishing is functional, not cosmetic, in marine service:
- Electropolishing — removes embedded iron, improves passivation and lowers surface roughness so barnacles and residue have less to adhere to.
- Passivation — chemically strengthens the chromium oxide layer that is the metal’s only defense against seawater.
- Shot blasting — produces a uniform matte texture and relieves surface stress.
- Pickling — removes scale and weld discolouration after casting or welding.
These treatments are applied in-house, which keeps lead times short and results consistent. For hardware destined for the waterline or below, electropolishing is the single most effective finishing step we offer for long-term durability.
Tolerance Capability
Dimensional accuracy matters in marine hardware where a cleat must bolt to a deck pattern and a propeller hub must seat on a shaft. As-cast features typically hold ISO 8062 tolerance grades CT4 to CT6, depending on size and section thickness. Functional surfaces — bolt holes, bore, shaft seats, sealing faces — are refined through CNC machining, routinely to ±0.01 mm.
We work directly from customer drawings and align inspection and reporting to common international standards, so the numbers on our dimensional report map cleanly to the limits on your specification. Bolt-hole patterns are held concentric, shaft seats are verified for runout, and mounting faces are flat so gaskets and seals seat correctly the first time.
Quality Control
Quality is engineered in, not inspected in. Our marine program includes:
- Heat chemistry verification with a direct-reading spectrometer before pour.
- Dimensional inspection on coordinate measuring machines against the CAD model.
- Non-destructive testing — dye penetrant, magnetic particle or radiographic inspection where the application demands it.
- Traceability — material certificates, dimensional reports and process records travel with each order.
This disciplined approach is why naval architects and shipyards specify Precision Steel Cast when a casting failure is not an option. A foundry that cannot prove what it poured, machined and tested is a foundry you cannot qualify into a safety-critical marine system — so we make the evidence part of the product.
Applications
Marine stainless steel castings from Precision Steel Cast are found on:
- Deck hardware — cleats, bollards, fairleads, chocks, deck fill and vent fittings
- Propeller hubs, nozzles and stern-gear components
- Shaft couplings and rudder stocks in 17-4PH or duplex
- Seawater pump impellers, volutes and housings
- Offshore platform fittings and subsea hardware
- Coastal and port infrastructure brackets and mooring components
Each application is reviewed for the loads, media and temperatures it will see so the grade, tolerance and finish are matched to service. A splash-zone bollard is specified differently from a continuously immersed seawater pump impeller, and our quoting process makes that distinction explicit.
Industries Served
- Marine — 316 and duplex hardware built to survive continuous saltwater exposure.
- Offshore — components rated for splash-zone and submerged service.
- Pump & Valve — pressure-tight castings with verified density and optional leak testing.
- Shipbuilding — repeatable, class-compatible hardware for new build and refit.
- Coastal Infrastructure — corrosion-resistant fittings for piers, locks and tidal plant.
Because we serve these industries globally, our documentation and packing are aligned with international shipping and procurement requirements. Buyers evaluating a new marine hardware casting supplier can begin with a sample batch to validate tooling and finish before committing to volume.
Design for Manufacturability
The most cost-effective marine casting is designed with the process in mind from the first sketch. Our engineering team reviews every inquiry for wall thickness, draft angles, parting lines and the placement of machined features. Where a modest change in geometry can remove a machining operation, improve ceramic shell stability or reduce the risk of hot spots, we propose it before any tooling is cut. Good design for manufacturability is the difference between a casting that machines easily and one that fights you at every step.
We also advise on radii, fillets and the transition between thick and thin sections so that molten metal fills the cavity completely and solidifies without shrinkage defects — especially important in solid, load-bearing marine parts.
Lead Time, Minimum Order and Logistics
Prototype tooling can be produced quickly so design and function are validated before committing to hardened production dies. Once the design is proven, we harden the tooling for volume runs and schedule production to match your build plan. Minimum order quantities are flexible and discussed per project, because a sensible first order should de-risk the relationship for both sides.
Finished castings are packed for international transit, with anti-corrosion measures applied wherever long ocean freight is expected. We coordinate shipments to North America, Europe and Asia so components arrive in step with your build plan rather than sitting in a warehouse.
Why Choose Precision Steel Cast
Buyers choose Precision Steel Cast because a single, vertically integrated partner controls casting, machining and inspection. That integration protects lead time, simplifies traceability and removes the finger-pointing that occurs when casting and machining are split between vendors. Combined with genuine marine-grade knowledge, in-house finishing and responsive engineering, it makes us a dependable marine stainless steel casting manufacturer for both first articles and recurring production.
Technical FAQ
316 / CF8M is the standard marine-grade austenitic casting and performs well for most above-water and splash-zone hardware. For continuous immersion, high-flow seawater or structural offshore parts, 2205 duplex offers far higher pitting resistance.
Yes. We cast 316L / CF3M as well as 316 / CF8M. The low-carbon L grade minimizes sensitization, which is the right choice when a casting is welded into a larger marine structure.
Electropolishing and passivation are standard for marine duty. Electropolishing removes embedded iron and reduces surface roughness so biofouling and corrosion have less to grip, while passivation reinforces the chromium oxide layer.
Cleats, bollards, fairleads, deck fill fittings, propeller hubs and shafts, seawater pump impellers and housings, and custom offshore hardware — all built to drawings.
Each heat is spectro-chemically verified, critical dimensions are checked on CMM, and material certificates travel with the order so the grade and chemistry are fully traceable.
