Introduction
Pumps move fluid, and fluid is unforgiving. Corrosive chemicals, abrasive slurries, seawater and sanitary product all place different, often conflicting, demands on the same basic component set. Investment casting is the right process for pump parts because it produces single, dense, near-net-shape components with the curved internal passages — vane passages, volute scrolls, suction throats — that would be extraordinarily difficult or wasteful to machine from solid stock. A cast impeller arrives close to final shape, needing only the sealing and fit diameters finished.
For pump OEMs, the advantage compounds. Less alloy removed means less scrap of expensive corrosion-resistant material and shorter lead time. Near-net-shape also means fewer welded seams and fabricated joints — the very features that trap crevices, invite corrosion and initiate fatigue in continuous-duty pumps. The casting is the pump’s foundation, so we make it right first.

Production Process
Every pump casting begins with a review of the hydraulic drawing for wall thickness, draft and balance features, followed by hardened tooling sized for the run. Wax patterns are injected and assembled, then built into a fine silica sol ceramic shell. After dewaxing and pour, the shell is removed, the part is cut from its runner, and the critical diameters are CNC machined to drawing. Final inspection confirms chemistry, dimensions and, where specified, internal soundness before international packing.
Material Options
Grade selection decides both service life and cost:
- 316L / CF3M — low-carbon grade for welded and hygienic pump assemblies.
- 316 / CF8M — the general austenitic workhorse for corrosive duty.
- 304 / CF8 — a cost-effective choice for milder media.
- 2205 Duplex — high strength and excellent chloride resistance for seawater service.
- CD4MCu — a duplex stainless designed specifically for pump erosion-corrosion resistance.
- 17-4PH — hardened shafts and wear components where strength is critical.

Surface Finishing
Pump performance depends heavily on surface condition. We apply:
- Electropolishing — smooths flow passages so efficiency is preserved and fouling is reduced.
- Passivation — reinforces the chromium oxide film for long-term corrosion resistance.
- Shot blasting / pickling — prepares and cleans the as-cast surface.
For sanitary and food pumps, electropolishing is typically the default finish because it directly improves cleanability and hygiene.
Tolerance Capability
As-cast pump features typically hold ISO 8062 CT4 to CT6 tolerances. The features that actually determine fit and seal — bores, shaft diameters, seal faces and register diameters — are refined on our CNC centers to ±0.01 mm so the impeller and casing assemble to the hydraulic design without field correction. Tight, repeatable tolerances are what let a pump assembler build to balance and trust the fit on the first attempt.
Quality Control
Quality is engineered in, not inspected in. Our pump program includes:
- Heat chemistry verification with a direct-reading spectrometer before pour.
- Dimensional inspection on CMMs against the CAD model.
- Non-destructive testing — dye penetrant or radiographic inspection where the duty demands it.
- Traceability — material certificates, dimensional reports and process records travel with the order.
A foundry that cannot prove what it poured, machined and tested is a foundry that cannot be qualified into a process-pump supply chain — so we make the evidence part of the product.
